Photo Editing 101: Dear Lightroom, I Love You

I get a lot of questions on how I edit my photos to fit my style and you know what? I don't have a single right answer. Over the years, my style has changed drastically as I tried to figure out what niche I wanted to be in, what I wanted my photos to say and the overall tone of my brand.

I think the best place to start is diving a little bit into my workflow. Now, being born and raised as a graphic designer, this girl was all about Photoshop. I would honestly edit my photos ONE BY ONE in Photoshop when I was first starting out. What was I thinking?! It took me so much longer than it should've and, ultimately, I ended up with a pretty inconsistent style and final product.

Then, thanks to my co-worker and fellow creative Chelcie (who's doing amazing stuff over at Featherstone & Company), I discovered the wondrous and magical world of Lightroom. I had shied away from it in the past because my brain was programmed for Photoshop and Illustrator, but I gave it a whirl. And whew! did it change my life. Using a few Lightroom presets cut down on my editing time by over 50% and gave me the ability to deliver a seamless and cohesive gallery to my clients.

I have a few different go-to resources for presets like Pretty Presets and Creative Market, but recently I've been all about minimizing the amount of products I use to speed up my process and declutter my life (because who doesn't love simplicity?).

THANK THE LORD I stumbled upon Jordan Brittley's site. I instantly fell in love with her light and airy style. As luck would have it, this gal created a FREE PRESET that she applies to all of her images. I've been so amazed with how well this treats each photo and may or may not be totally addicted. Of course, a little tweaking never hurts on an image-by-image basis, but this has transformed my workflow.

So, that's all folks!

My editing style has gone through a rollercoaster of emotions since I began shooting, but I'm feeling pretty stoked about where it's grown to.
